EXHIBITION OF ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND TAXIDERMY “UNEXPECTED NATURE RESERVE: THE CHERNOBYL EXCLUSION ZONE IN TERMS OF ZOOLOGIST”

We opened a new thematic exhibition in the exhibition hall on the ground floor of the museum on July 1, 2014. The exhibition of 100 photographs, taxidermist stuffed animals and birds? scientific information blocks, direct speech by specialists, maps of wildlife habitat in the Chernobyl Exclusion zone. Admission is free.

The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone is the world’s only special area the size of a small country of ​​almost 2600 km2,which is createdby manbecause of the largeradiation contaminationand completeevacuationof residents.Economic activityiscompletelyabandoned, buthuman existenceis subject tothe needfor radiation safety. The appearanceof such a largeterritory,freefrom the intenseimpact of human activitywas the mostambitiousenvironmentalexperimentof our time.

Despite the contamination of thousands of times higher than permissible, provided essentially protected mode without the help and hindrance from man there was a gradual restoration of natural systems, Polissja’s flora and fauna. This process in its scope is unparalleled in Europe. In general, the faunal complexes increase in the number of species and their numbers, there are rare species that are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine and to be protected. Effect of radiation on wildlife practically overlaps the absence of losses from human activities. Today Zone is actually a large nature reserve of European forest fauna.

Offered to your attention a thematic exhibition opens another, unusual and paradoxical, side of the Chernobyl disaster. Our exhibition aims to introduce the wildlife of the Exclusion zone, its diversity and the most prominent representatives.

There are more than100pictures inthe exhibition. Photo by Ukrainian naturalists – zoologists, ornithologists, radioecologist, researchers of the wildlife of the Exclusion zone. You will learn about their work in circumstances to the Exclusion zone, their opinions of ecological status and future of contaminated areas of Polissja. The exhibition complements by scientific information blocks, direct speech by specialists, maps of wildlife habitat in the Chernobyl Exclusion zone.
